GLASS, CONVEX & MIRRORS Glazing is protection for the face of the artwork and is available in two basic configurations:
Glass: A hard, scratch resistant surface that cleans easily and is the most cost-efficient. On the downside, glass is fragile and breaks easily, is a poor thermal insulator, so moisture condenses easily on the surface), it does not filter harmful ultra-violet light rays unless it's specially treated, and it's heavy.
Plexiglass: An unbreakable surface, providing better protection for the artwork. It's an excellent thermal insulator, filters out harmful ultra-violet light rays better than glass (can be treated to filter 99% of such rays), and is one-third the weight of glass. On the downside, plexiglass is difficult to clean, requiring the use of a special cleaner and soft cloth to avoid scratches, it has a high degree of inherent static electricity, thus attracting more dust than glass does, and is more expensive than glass.
